It has an open porous structure that is larger than the surface (surface area per unit mass). It can absorb many substances. It is a good desiccant, adsorbent and catalyst carrier. The adsorption of silica gel is mainly physical adsorption, renewable and reusable. In the alkali metal silicate (such as sodium silicate) solution to add acid, make it acidified, and then add a certain amount of electrolyte stirring, namely the formation of silicic acid gel; Alternatively, silicic acid gels can be made by adding acid or ammonium salts to a thicker solution of sodium silicate.
